The Simkin Center for Allied Birth at Bastyr University is a renowned institution dedicated to training professionals in childbirth and maternity care. Located within Bastyr University, the center offers comprehensive educational programs for aspiring doulas, childbirth educators, and lactation consultants. The curriculum is designed to provide hands-on training and evidence-based knowledge, emphasizing holistic and natural approaches to childbirth. The Simkin Center is named after Penny Simkin, a prominent childbirth educator and doula, reflecting its commitment to empowering and supporting women through the childbirth experience.

The Bastyr University, Department of Midwifery and Maternal Child Health Systems program offer hybrid and distance learning opportunities that enable birth/lactation workers and aspiring birth professionals to stay in their own local communities, while earning a degree from a regionally accredited university. Scholarships, including some that entirely cover tuition, are available to apply for.
